This Thursday at 7:00pm Eastern , join myself and Dr. Dawn Chitty as we interview Dr. Jill Newmark about the important historical legacy of African American Physicians and Surgeons who served in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War.
Jill L Newmark is an independent historian and former curator and exhibition specialist at the National Library of Medicine at the National Institutes of Health. She curated several exhibtions for NLM including Binding Wounds, Pushing Boundaries: African Americans in Civil War Medicine and Within These Walls: Contraband Hospital and the African Americans that Served There. Jill has written several articles on the subject for publications and online websites including Prologue, the quarterly publication of the National Archives, Traces magazine of the Indiana Historical Society, black past.org and NLM's Circulating Now. She is currently writing a book on African American Civil War surgeons.
