African American Genealogy Methods & Strategies at SLIG

In January 2023 I will coordinate the (Virtual) African American Track at the Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy for the third time ! The course will include foundational lectures (such as Judy G. Russell on the Laws of Slavery), but the focus will be on case studies- that provide guidance on methodologies and strategies for meeting the Genealogical Proof Standard when researching families that came out of slavery. We are reprising the West Indian genealogy lecture that proved to be so popular in 2019, and I am particularly pleased that the pioneering genealogist in this area, Tony Burroughs, has joined the faculty of this track.

Registration opens on July 16, 2022, at 10:00am MDT.
